Radeon in NVIDIA’s All-Encompassing Strategy — GPU Capital Theory
Hello. How’s everyone doing?
I’m Hiro from Full Body Tracking Lab.
Last time I wrote about “How Radeon in VRChat Was Delayed by Six Months.” Today I’m stepping back for a broader view — the capital relationships across the entire GPU industry.
VRChat players might think “why are we talking about this?” But the Radeon and NVIDIA GPUs we use are deeply entangled in massive currents far beyond VRChat.
NVIDIA Is No Longer “A GPU Company”
NVIDIA has become “a company that builds AI infrastructure,” not “a company that makes GPUs.”
Game-oriented graphics cards are no longer NVIDIA’s “core business.”
NVIDIA Invests in Everything
NVIDIA has invested in OpenAI, Intel, and even Nebius Corporation (related to the former “Russian Google” Yandex). They’re trying to dominate AI infrastructure entirely.
AI Servers Are Consuming Memory, Leaving Radeon for Gamers
AI servers desperately want HBM (High Bandwidth Memory). Manufacturing this compresses the supply of regular consumer memory too. SSD prices are also rising for similar reasons.
Here’s the interesting part: Radeon currently uses GDDR6 — the previous generation of memory. This “older” line operates stably outside the AI server HBM frenzy. Prices stay manageable.
What this means: for regular gaming GPUs, AMD’s advantages have clearly increased.
NVIDIA is frankly stretched thin with AI server processor manufacturing. The resources they can dedicate to gaming GPUs going forward is honestly uncertain.
For gaming GPU choices, Radeon’s presence is relatively rising. That’s the current trend.
What This Means for VRChat Users
Simply put:
- NVIDIA is focusing on AI servers; gaming GPU supply and pricing are unpredictable
- Memory and SSD prices are rising, increasing overall PC costs
- Radeon can maintain stable supply on older production lines with good price value
- Radeon’s relative advantage for gaming is increasing
When a VRChat newcomer wants to “build a comfortable PC within budget,” the rationality of choosing Radeon is at an all-time high.
