Hello. I’m Hiro from Full Body Tracking Lab.
A lot of people want to automate something with AI. But honestly, “automation” hasn’t really taken hold in daily life. People use ChatGPT and Claude, but life hasn’t dramatically changed for most.
Today I want to introduce what I think is the most practical use of AI automation: organizing your finances.
AI Is Better at “Categorizing” Than “Analyzing”
In my experience, having AI “categorize things” is far more practical than “feeding it data and getting answers.”
Give AI a month’s worth of expenses and ask it to sort them into food, transportation, hobbies, and fixed costs. The tedious work humans keep putting off, AI does in an instant. Plus, the categorization criteria don’t fluctuate — same rules as last month, making comparisons easy.
Security Boundaries Are Necessary
You must never input personal data like bank account numbers or credit card information into AI. That’s a fundamental security premise.
Just extract amounts and categories: “March 5, convenience store, 580 yen.” No personally identifiable information needed. AI can still categorize and tally everything just fine.
The Most Useful Thing Is Creating a Cashbook
The most useful AI automation in my experience is creating a cashbook — a ledger of money in and out.
Why is this great? Two reasons:
1. You Can See Your Money Flow
A cashbook makes spending patterns visible at a glance. “I spent a lot on food this month.” “My hobby spending is double last month’s!” When you externalize something, its scale changes.
2. You Can Do Accurate Analysis
Once you can see money flow, accurate analysis becomes possible. “Food was 42,000 yen instead of the 30,000 target because I ate out three times a week.”
It Works for Tax Categorization Too
If you file tax returns, AI is useful for categorizing business expenses versus personal expenses monthly, so you don’t scramble at tax time.
The Method Is Simple
(1) Record expenses (any method works)
(2) At month’s end, send to AI (“Turn this into a cashbook”)
(3) AI categorizes and tallies
(4) Ask follow-ups like “Compare with last month”
That’s it. Nothing complicated. Just record expenses and send them to AI. That alone will change how you spend money.
