Hello. I’m Hiro from Full Body Tracking Lab.
Today I have some tough advice for newcomers to the metaverse, or those about to enter.
Dream big about the metaverse itself. The technology, the possibilities, the future — dream away. But don’t fantasize about your friends.
What I mean is: don’t project ideal versions onto the people you meet in VR. They’re real humans with real flaws, real busy schedules, and real lives outside VRChat. When you idealize someone based on limited VR interactions, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
People in VRChat will disappear without warning. They’ll get busy. They’ll change interests. They’ll have bad days and be short with you. None of this means they don’t value you — it means they’re human.
The metaverse connects you with real people. Treat those connections with the same realistic expectations you’d bring to any real-world relationship. Appreciate what people offer without demanding they match your fantasy.
Healthy VR friendships grow from accepting people as they are, including their inconsistencies and limitations. That’s what makes those friendships real and lasting.
