When a world creator in VRChat decides to shut down their worlds, a piece of the community disappears permanently. Today I want to discuss this problem and what we can do to protect creators.
World creators invest hundreds or thousands of hours building spaces that become communities. When they burn out, face harassment, or simply move on, those worlds vanish. With them go the memories, the meetup spots, and the cultural landmarks of the community.
We need to think about how to support world creators so burnout is less likely, how to preserve significant cultural spaces, and how to create an environment where creators feel valued enough to continue.
This isn’t about forcing anyone to keep working. It’s about building a culture and infrastructure that makes creation sustainable.
